(http://www.energyasia.com/) --- Lanka Maritime Services, a unit of Sri Lankan conglomerate John Keells Holdings, said it has expanded its floating storage with the acquisition of an 8,800 DWT double-hull tanker to provide bunkering services at Sri Lanka’s Colombo port.
Lanka Maritime Services said it was prompted to acquire the ship because of berthing problems for its tankers at the port.
“In order to increase the throughput and volume it is necessary for us to have our own vessel to transport our commodity,” Mohamed Reza, Lanka Maritime Services director, said in a statement.
Until a Supreme Court ruling last year, Lanka Maritime Services used to have an effective monopoly of bunker supply in the Colombo port.

Lanka Marine is the bunkering unit of John Keells, not Lanka Maritime. Lanka Maritime is an independent company of John Keells. It is 100% owned by Sri Lanka Shipping Co. Ltd., the company with the largest merchant shipping fleet in Sri Lanka.
